Felid House, Tg. Mures Zoo
STATUS: built
AREA: 2.500sqm
The Felid House occupies the central area of the City Zoo. It works with the surrounding nature to create a proper environment for the cats. The sinuous shape creates glades for each specie according to their needs. The visitors can see the animals in different scenarios. One is an outdoor natural environment with a public path around the enclosure. The other one is a sheltered environment accessible by the ondulating main hall.
The feline house shelters big cats like cheetah, cougar, lynx, ocelot, jaguar and wild cats. The glades are enclosed with a mesh that blends with the surroundings for a friendlier cat environment.
The Elephant House has a representative role in the Zoo. It is accessed via a wooden bridge taking the visitors to the main entrance. The reason for this is the elevation from which the animal is viewed. The pan has an elliptical shape divided with a partition on the middle. On one side the animal can be viewed by the public and on the other side the zookeepers have access for animal care. The space is lighten from above through the translucent roof allowing for uniform interior lighting. The space is rendered white to maximize the light during winter. The floor is painted concrete according to European regulations for this particular species.
The house as an adjacent outdoor forested space which can be used by the animal in the warm season. It has generous dimensions which can house two or more individuals.
